“Without libraries what have we? We have no past and no future.”

Ray Bradbury

The University of Winnipeg Library has always been and continues to be, the heart of academic research in our University community. While the role of libraries may be changing in the digital age, we continue to provide the academic resources (books, articles, and more) that drive learning, as well as calm and comforting spaces to do academic work in. Many former students remember our Library as not just somewhere to borrow books or study but as a source of great memories from their time at university.

At the University of Winnipeg Library, our vision is:

The Library will be a place of engagement, learning, and sanctuary. Through vibrant dialogue with the university community in all its diversity, we strive to contribute meaningfully to multiple literacies, responsible critical inquiry, and equitable access to knowledge, both at the University of Winnipeg and beyond.

The Library is the heart of the University. It is a place that many students will remember for the rest of their lives – a place of refuge, of intellectual stimulation, of serenity and studying.

We want to provide a Library that is environmentally friendly and represents the University’s commitment to sustainability. We want to remain comfortable and welcoming, and pay homage to the Library's original, innovative design. We want to revitalize the heart of the University, encouraging students to use the space to thrive and flourish. And we want your help.

Built in the 1970s, tens of thousands of students have walked through our doors. In any given year over 340,000 people enter our space; an average of more than 46 visits, per student, a year. In the last decade the University of Winnipeg’s population has more than doubled.

Once recognized as an innovative facility with original design, after almost fifty years, and a constant stream of traffic, the University of Winnipeg Library needs an update and is relying on you to lend a hand. By making little improvements like new paint and brighter lighting, we can resurrect the inspiring, vibrant atmosphere of our Library.

Donations and bequests of any amount will help.
