Linking to the Reserve List

Creating direct links to Reserve lists, for example from Nexus

Instructors may wish to place a link to their Reserve list on a web page, such as their personal home page. To link to readings for all courses by the same instructor:

  1. go to the Reserves by Instructor’s Name page at http://libcat.uwinnipeg.ca/search/r
  2. enter your last name in the search box and submit the form
  3. browse to find your full name, and note exactly how it is listed, e.g. Fudd Elmer
  4. replace every space in the name with a “+” (this will convert the name to URL-encoded format, meaning it is safe to pass in a URL)
  5. place http://libcat.uwinnipeg.ca/search/r?SEARCH= in front of the URL-encoded name
  6. the result — e.g. http://libcat.uwinnipeg.ca/search/p?SEARCH=Fudd+Elmer — is the persistent link to the Reserve readings for the course

To link to readings for a specific course:

  1. go to the Reserves by Course Name page at http://libcat.uwinnipeg.ca/search/r
  2. enter the name of the department in the search box and submit the form
  3. browse to find the course, and note exactly how it is listed, e.g. “Chemistry 3503 Lab References”
  4. replace every space in the name with “+” (this will convert the name to URL-encoded format, meaning it is safe to pass in a URL)
  5. place “http://libcat.uwinnipeg.ca/search/r?SEARCH=” in front of the URL-encoded name
  6. the result — e.g. http://libcat.uwinnipeg.ca/search/r?SEARCH=Chemistry+3503+Lab+References — is the persistent link to the Reserve readings for the course
