This summer we’re featuring 2SLGBTQIA+ works in a local and regional context; scholars, subjects, and narratives connected to the prairies and western Canada. All tell stories of everyday connection, sadness, hope, fear, and reality from both individuals and communities building new ways to love, build, and fight together in the world. These stories are protected and preserved here in works of literature, memoir, sociology, history, and art.

Many of these titles showcase the power of preserving personal narratives and primary source materials, demonstrating how special archive collections – like our own Two-Spirit Archives – can support new and existing areas of scholarship. These collections remind us how easy it is for knowledge to be ignored, hidden, or lost – especially when the subject matter is considered outside the mainstream or disconnected from political or socioeconomic power.

A person wearing a neclace with the book's title on the cover.Nîtisânak / Lindsay Nixon

We are going to have to get down to brass tacks…” [from the publisher]

Two people leaning against a wooden railing.Making a Scene: lesbians and community across Canada / Liz Millward
