RDM Data Sharing and Preservation

What are options for preservation, retention, & sharing?

Digital Data Formats

The University of Winnipeg Library currently has limited resources for the long term preservation of research data. Institutional, national and disciplinary options include:

  • The University of Winnipeg is pleased to offer UWinnipeg Research Data Repository, which accepts research data and datasets that have been created by researchers and research groups at the University of Winnipeg. Files are held in a secure environment on Canadian servers.
  • The Federated Research Data Repository is available to Canadian researchers.  This national tool enables long-term preservation and access to data in a federated search interface.
  • Find an appropriate repository by searching the Registry of Research Data Repositories (Re3data.org), an international registry of data repositories in a variety of disciplines.
  • A discipline-specific archive (ex. The University of Winnipeg's Oral History Archive
  • WinnSpace, the University of Winnipeg's institutional repository, accepts some data formats with individual file sizes up to 1 GB.  Note: There are no built in viewers for images, video, etc, meaning use of these data types requires downloads.

Physical Data Formats

The University of Winnipeg Archives currently has limited resources for the long term preservation of physical data. If you require physical storage of data assets, please contact the Archives directly prior to submitting your proposal.
