Workshops: Journal Publishing at UWinnipeg

Are you a journal editor – or interested in becoming one – and curious about some of the options for digital journal publishing? Attend our quick Zoom Lunch and Learns, where we will discuss considerations in journal publishing with a focus on Open Journal Systems (OJS).


1. Getting a Digital Journal Going
November 30, 12:30-1:00 pm | Online

The first session will cover basic editorial choices for setting up a new online journal or duplicating a print journal. We will discuss the OJS system, including the hosted journal options available at UWinnipeg and the scholarly publishing team available to help, and go over copyrights, publication agreements, and other licensing concerns. We will also touch on sustainability/ funding models for journals, including the funding offered to Canadian journals through Érudit. 

2. Getting a Digital Journal Found
December 7, 12:30 – 1:00 pm | Online

The second session will cover how to ensure the contents of your journal are discoverable and always available. We will discuss metadata, getting indexed, library catalogues, commercial aggregators, preservation considerations, journal ethics, and building a community/ attracting authors.
