Join the Research Office for Research Week 2024!
The Research Office is organizing Research Week 2024 from November 12 to 15. Over four days, the UWinnipeg Community will participate in interactive events to build the skills and connections necessary for research success. The extensive lineup of events includes workshops, panel discussions, networking sessions, and talks and exhibitions in which some of our librarians will take part.
Publishing Pitfalls
Our Copyright Librarian, Brianne Selman, will present the session Publishing Pitfalls. In her talk, she will offer advice on how to assess the quality of journals and publishers, identify frauds and scams, and ensure you're paying a fair price for publication.
Join Brianne on November 12 from 4:15 to 5:15 p.m. in room 2M70 to learn how to spot publishing pitfalls before you're caught up in them.
A Marxist Critique of Libraries
Our Digital Infrastructure Librarian, Sam Popowich, will showcase his recent research work at the CRiCS and CRYTC Research Exhibition. Sam does research in the politics of libraries, where he takes a Marxist and political theory approach to library work. He's the author of several research articles and books, including his PhD dissertation, The Cheapest Police: The Limits of Recognition and Intellectual Freedom in Canadian Libraries, and his new book, Solving Names: Worldliness and Metaphysics in Librarianship. He also recently published a novel entitled Rumours of Virtue, which you can find at the library.
To learn more about Sam's research, visit the Research Exhibition in the Knowledge Mobilization Lab (3C25) on November 13 between 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Check out the Research Office website for the full schedule of events.
