Learn more about Black History and Black communities in Manitoba
February is Black History Month, a time to honour the contributions, achievements and experiences of Black people and to reflect on the challenges they continue to face in their daily lives. The Uwinnipeg Library and Archives are great starting places to learn more about the history of Black communities.
The library offers various research guides, created by our librarians, on topics such as Black Lives Matter, Race, Racialization and Racism, and Colonization, Decolonization and Postcolonialism. We also encourage you to borrow a book from our new book display on Black Legacy and Leadership.
The Archives has several collections you can explore if you're interested in the history of Black communities in Manitoba. It includes the BIPOC collections, the Congress of Black Women of Manitoba Inc. fonds, and the Frances Atwell collection.
You can find other ways to get involved in Black History Month around campus on the UW News website.
