Fair Dealing Week
Mon. Feb. 24, 2025

What is fair dealing and why should you care?
Fair dealing is an exception in Canadian copyright law that allows limited and reasonable use of copyright-protected work, such as books, journals, websites, movies, and music, without permission from the copyright owner or payment of fees provided that certain conditions are met. Fair dealing is a vital component in ensuring students, faculty, and staff can access, share, and use the resources they need for teaching and learning.
You can celebrate Fair Dealing Week with us by watching our video on why fair dealing matters. You can also learn how to apply fair dealing at UW by reading the Fair Dealing Guidelines on the Copyright Office website.
If you have any questions, contact the Copyright Office at copyrightoffice@uwinnipeg.ca or (204) 786-9802.
