This Spring Term, the library offers four Ready, Set, Go workshops to help you with the academic research process. Join our librarians in these practical workshops to discover new tools and tips that will help you in your studies. All sessions are held online, and no previous knowledge is required!
Spring Term Program
- Search Strategies (May 12, 10:30 - 11:00 a.m.)
Learn how to construct thoughtful searches so that you can find those 3-5 academic sources your professor is asking for. - Finding Credible Sources (May 20, 12:30 - 1:00 p.m.)
Discuss evaluating sources so you can be sure the information you're using is credible. - Finding Canadian Data: An Introduction to Statistics Canada (May 26, 12:30 -1:00 p.m.)
Learn how to quickly and accurately find and explore Canadian data on a wide range of subjects applicable to your studies and interests. - Mapping Canadian Data: An Introduction to the Canadian Census and GIS Software (June 2, 12:30 - 1:00 p.m.)
Learn how to find and download Canadian census data, prepare it, and display geographic information in a final map.
Instructors
Librarian Ian Fraser is the Head of Reference and Instruction at the Library. He has professional expertise in critical information literacy, learning theory, academic integrity, and generative AI. He is teaching the first two workshops.
Data Librarian Jaime Orr is the functional lead for data services - how to access, organize, and preserve research and public data. She supports Research Data Management planning, policy and dissemination. She will teach the data workshops.
