Library Database Update
Wed. Jul. 2, 2025
New EBSCO user interface coming July 28
On July 28, 2025, the user interface (UI) for the EBSCO platform will be updated. While the Library has been working with EBSCO for several months to reduce the disruption caused by this change, some disruption will still be necessary.
Among other things, the changes to the UI will modify how searches are performed and stored, how search results can be shared, and generally change the look and feel of any database using the EBSCOhost system (see the list to determine whether any of the databases you use are on the EBSCO platform). This may have unforeseen effects on reproducible/systematic searching and knowledge/evidence synthesis research methodologies and projects. A few things to look out for:
- Multi-line and folder-based saved searches in the old UI will translate as single-line searches to the new UI, but the same search should be rewritable in a single line.
- Saved searches that no longer work in the new system may be unavailable. Please contact your subject librarian for help recovering old searches.
- The process of saving and sharing records will be different, but any already-saved record should still link to the right record in the new interface.
EBSCO has provided instructions for migrating shared data from the old interface to the new one. The Library should also be able to help you with this.
The Library recommends saving any important searches outside of EBSCO until after the change has been made. For help saving those searches, please contact the Library. For systematic searching, we recommend performing your search a little before July 28 and then again a little after. This will allow you to see whether the new search interface has affected the results of your search.
For any and all questions, comments, or concerns, please reach out to the Library.
