Data Workshops 2026

Build Research Data Management skills.

Data Librarian Jaime Orr is offering three workshops this semester on Research Data Management. These workshops are held online on Mondays from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m., and are open to students, staff, and faculty. Participants will develop practical skills in digital organization, locate open data for their projects, and confidently identify and evaluate Canadian data.

Winter Term Schedule

FINAL_FINAL_THIS_ONE: Data Management Skills for Students (January 26)

In this workshop, tailored for undergraduate students, participants will learn effective strategies for organizing files, cleaning and storing data, working in teams, and documenting their work so that assignments and group projects run smoothly.

Finding Publicly Available Data in Data Portals (February 09)

This hands-on workshop, open to students, staff and researchers, guides participants through locating, searching, and interpreting datasets from major open data portals at municipal, national, and international levels.

Finding Canadian Data: Exploring Statistics Canada (March 02)

In this workshop, participants will learn how to navigate the Statistics Canada website, identify reliable datasets, understand data documentation, and choose data sources that match their needs.


Instructor

Data Librarian Jaime Orr is the functional lead for data services - how to access, organize, and preserve research and public data. She supports Research Data Management planning, policy and dissemination. She will teach the data workshops.
