Join Us for Three Exciting Workshops During Love Data Week

Love Data Week is all about caring for data—finding it, understanding it, and ensuring it can be used and reused in the future. Join us for three complementary workshops that explore different stages of the research data journey, from discovery to sharing and preservation.

Love at First Dataset: Finding Publicly Available Data in Data Portals (Feb 9)

This hands-on workshop, open to students, staff and researchers, guides participants through locating, searching, and interpreting datasets from major open data portals at municipal, national, and international levels.

❤ Data Love Stories: Researcher Perspectives on Managing and Sharing Their Research Data (Feb 11)

In this workshop, we’ll hear from three researchers who will share the stories behind their data. Each panelist will describe their research, highlight their data management approaches, share successes and lessons learned and discuss what motivated them to deposit their data in UWinnipeg Borealis, our institutional research data repository.

Panelists:

  • Dr. Rafael Otfinowski (Biology)
  • Dr. Nora Casson (Geography)
  • Dr. Danielle Defries (Kinesiology and Applied Health)

Love Your Data: A Guided Tour of Borealis (Feb 13)

In this workshop, we’ll turn our attention to sharing your own data. This workshop introduces Borealis, the University of Winnipeg’s research data repository, and walks through collection policies, deposit standards, and the step-by-step process for depositing a dataset. You’ll also see examples of UWinnipeg datasets already available in Borealis.

 Facilitator/Instructor
