Craft & Cast Club – February Session
Tue. Feb. 17, 2026
Listen to the story of Nimkii
Join us on Friday, February 27, from 12:30 to 1:20 p.m. for a new session of the Craft & Cast Club.
The Craft & Cast Club is s a unique opportunity for students, staff, and faculty at the University of Winnipeg to relax while learning. Each session is an invitation to practice your craft of choice (drawing, beading, embroidery, knitting, etc.) while listening to a new episode of the CBC podcast, This Place.
This Place is a 10-part journey through 150 years of Indigenous resistance and resilience. Through dramatizations and interviews, the series reveals the heroes, battles, triumphs and traditions which live outside and beyond the national story we have been taught ... to learn, to share, and to heal the future of "this place" we call Canada.
This month’s episode, “Nimkii”, takes us back in 1990 on the Wabaseemoong Reserve, where a group has just blocked the Children's Aid Society from entering their community and taking any more of their children. After the confrontation, Sixties Scoop survivor Nimkii shares with her daughter the story of her life, and the promise she made to a little boy.
