Ares Login issues (resolved, password reset may be required)
Mon. Jan. 27, 2020
On the afternoon and evening of Monday January 27, login attempts to the library's course reserve system, Ares resulted in an error "your password is incorrect".
As of 9:30am Tuesday January 28, a fix was in place that allowed most logins to work again and this news article was updated.
As of 3:15pm Tuesday January 28, we have confirmed some accounts were still unable to log in to Ares, Nexus, and our proxy, but were still able to log into some University of Winnipeg services such as campus computers. Accounts in this situation will require a change of password to work again across all University of Winnipeg services with shared network login ID.
In order to put your University of Winnipeg network login through a password change, you will need to follow the following TSC password change guidelines. The steps are different if you are a student or faculty/staff.
- Students needing to change their password will have to log into WebAdvisor and click the "change password" option on the top right hand side.
- Faculty and staff who have access to WebAdvisor/Colleague can also log in there and click the "change password" option on the top right hand side.
- Faculty and staff who do have access to WebAdvisor/Colleague can use the form at https://up.uwinnipeg.ca/
If you are unable to change your password, you will need to reset it.
- Students are able to reset theirs by going to WebAdvisor, clicking on "Current Students", and clicking on "Forgot My Password". You can also get assistance with a password reset by reaching out to the technology service desk, email: servicedesk@uwinnipeg.ca, phone: 204.786.9149 (8 AM to 6 PM), in person: UPLINK - 4C32B (9 AM to 6 PM). The TSC page on student password reset describes this process in more detail.
- The password reset procedure for Faculty and staff have to reach out to the technology service desk, email: servicedesk@uwinnipeg.ca, phone: 204.786.9149 (8 AM to 6 PM), in person: UPLINK - 4C32B (9 AM to 6 PM). The TSC page on faculty/staff password resets describes this process in more detail.
We regret the inconvenience a password change or reset would cause you if your account is affected.
Though the technology service desk is the primary point of follow-up regarding a password change or reset, you can also may reach out to libsystems@uwinnipeg.ca if further information or support is required.
