Research Data Management Week 2025

Mon. Apr. 28, 2025

Preparing for the Tri-Agency Data Deposit Requirement

The Tri-Agencies are expected to phase in a data deposit requirement in 2026, which will require all grant recipients “to deposit into a digital repository all digital research data, metadata and code that directly support the research conclusions in journal publications and pre-prints that arise from agency-supported research [by the time of publication]” (Tri-Agency RDM Policy).

RDM Week 2025, happening from May 20 to 23, will provide UWinnipeg researchers with the information they need to prepare for this requirement including planning for data deposit from the beginning with a data management plan (DMP); key considerations for researchers in the humanities and creative arts who are uniquely positioned in the RDM landscape; ethical and ontological considerations for human-based research; and an introduction to Borealis, UWinnipeg’s research data repository.

Program

Session 1, May 20 - Data Management Plans: This session will provide essential information about Data Management Plans (or DMP), including the importance and benefits of writing a DMP, discipline specific DMP exemplars and a demonstration of the freely available DMP tool, DMP Assistant.

Session 2, May 21 - Demystifying 'data deposit' for the creative arts and humanities: This session aims to demystify RDM and the forthcoming Tri-Agency data deposit requirement for the creative arts and humanities and offer practical advice for preparing grant proposals.

Session 3, May 22 - Ethical and ontological considerations for human-based research: This session will highlight important privacy and ethics considerations for human-based research, and the ontological considerations and limitations of RDM in the context of Indigenous knowledge systems.

Session 4, May 23 - UWinnipeg's Research Data Repository, Borealis: This session will introduce participants to Borealis, UWinnipeg’s multi-disciplinary, secure, Canadian-based research data repository.

All sessions are held online from 12:30 to 1:15 p.m. Please, click on the sessions you want to attend to access their registration pages.
