Status of Library Services

The physical library facility is closed and all in-person library services have been moved to alternate delivery. Access to digital resources remains unaffected, and staff are working remotely to deliver most services online. Below is the current status of individual service areas, as well as links to where you can find more information. For general campus or health-related information, please check the University’s COVID-19 Update Page for regular updates.

⚠️ Study Spaces & Printing
The physical Library space is closed to all visitors. Visit the university's On-Campus Learning page for the more information on computer access, printing, and study space options.
✅ Archives
Services are available remotely; contact the Archives for assistance.
✅ Collections & Acquisitions
For purchases and digital alternatives to print material, contact your liaison librarian or visit our COVID-19 resources page. We have a Scan on Demand service available for instructors who require excerpts from physical Library material, subject to applicable copyright policy.
✅ Copyright Services
Remote consultations are available; visit copyright.uwinnipeg.ca to talk to staff or make an appointment.
⚠️ Print Borrowing & Interlibrary Loans
Print materials are available through our Library Pickup and Scan on Demand services. Users do not need to return or renew their materials at this time. ILL materials only need to be returned if the lending library has requested the item back; ILL staff will contact patrons directly if an item needs to be returned. Questions about library accounts, fines, and due dates can be directed to circulation@uwinnipeg.ca or 204.786.9808.
- All book loans due on or after March 1, 2020 have/will be extended until April 30, 2021.
- All recalls have been disabled.
- All interlibrary loans of print material have been suspended.
- Digital interlibrary loan service is available. Visit the interlibrary loan page for more information.
- Books can be returned to the dropbox at the South entrance to Centennial Hall near the security booth.

✅ Reference & Instruction Services
Library staff continue to provide Reference and Instruction Services while campus is closed.
- Students, faculty, and staff can access research assistance from the Library's Help with Research pages.
- Reference inquiries can be made remotely over the Library's Online Chat service.
- Research consultation appointments may still be booked with a Subject Librarian; consultations will take place over Zoom or another suitable platform. Students and Researchers wishing to book an appointment may do so here: Appointments
- Instructors requiring students to access library resources during the Fall or Winter terms are strongly encouraged to contact their Subject Librarian to ensure continuity of access to these resources during the library closure or to explore alternatives.
- Instructors wishing to book a library instruction session for their course may do so using the following form: Instruction Request
✅ Research Data Management Services
Services are available remotely. Visit the RDM website for more information.
⚠️ Reserves
Staff are able to offer full support for digital materials; print scanning services are available, but subject to applicable Fair Dealing guidelines. Faculty are strongly encouraged to make early use of the Syllabus Service to ensure that students have access to materials for their courses. Contact reserves staff for more assistance.
