Library & Database Access for Short-Term Researchers

Post-doctoral fellows, visiting and research scholars, and research assistants who are entitled to access library resources must activate their library account by following these steps:

  1. The sponsoring department or faculty member must fill out the Technology Solutions Centre new account form. Both a Windows (Campus Network Access) account and an Email (Outlook) account must be requested in order to remotely access library databases.

  2. The researcher must email a photo to studentcard@uwinnipeg.ca from their UWinnipeg email address to request an ID card. The researcher will be notified when their card is ready for pick up at the Human Resource offices on the 7th floor of Rice. For more information, see the Student ID Card page.

  3. The researcher must then bring their ID card to the Library Circulation Desk to activate their library account.

  4. If the researcher is not based in Winnipeg and requires access to ILL, the sponsoring department or faculty member must request a library account on the researcher's behalf. Please email the following information to circulation@uwinnipeg.ca from your UWinnipeg email address: researcher's name, network username (as provided by TSC), department and/or faculty member for whom they are working, and the dates of their contract.

Any questions or requests for special arrangements can be directed to the Public Services Manager, Allison DaSilva.

Please note that offsite database access is restricted to users with a valid network account. The Library has no role in determining who is eligible for a network account, nor are we able to make exceptions due to both licensing and technological restrictions.
