Getting Started at the Library

Fri. Sep. 22, 2023

Welcome from the Reference Department!

If you’re not sure how to start an assignment, borrow a book, or use a research database, talk to the library! We’re here to help. You can come in person, use our Online Chat (look for the red and white textbox icon on each page), contact a librarian, or sign up for an online research workshop with the Reference librarian.

We can help explain vocabulary questions (what’s a scholarly source?), show you how to look something up in a database, and help you choose search terms to find the right resources.

Research Guides

Get an Intro to the Library, learn what library and research-specific vocabulary words mean, look up the Research Guides for your subject, watch or read videos and tutorials to learn research skills, and learn to use and format citations.

See the Help with Research button on the library homepage for more.

The Library In Person

NOTE: The library and the UW Bookstore are different places. The library is where you get research material for assignments. The bookstore is where you buy or rent required books.

Library Accessibility
